How much does a prayer weigh? (Sunday School Story - 5)

HOW MUCH DOES A PRAYER WEIGH?

A poorly-dressed woman walked into a grocery store. She approached the shop keeper and asked him if he would let her have some groceries. She explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work; they had seven children, and they needed food. The shop keeper asked her how much she could spend. The poor woman answered saying she had no money to offer but she would pray for him.

 The shop keeper was not interested in religion or prayer, so he said, mockingly, "Write your prayer on a piece of paper, and I'll weigh it." The poor woman took a piece of paper, wrote a prayer and handed it to the shop keeper. The shop keeper placed the prayer on the weight side of his old- fashioned weighing scales. Then he began piling food and supplies on the other side of the weighing scale.

                 
To the shop keeper's amazement, the scale would not go down. The scale did not balance, so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more. The shop owner stood there in utter disbelief. The shop keeper took the groceries from the scale, put them in a bag and gave the overflowing bags to the poor woman. The poor woman thanked him and left the store.
When the woman was gone, the shop keeper went to look at the scales. The shop keeper grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at the prayer that had been written; "Please, Lord, give us this day our daily bread." It was sometime later that the shop keeper discovered that the scales had unexplainably broken. Only God knows how much a prayer weighs!
