Biblical VBS Themes (Part - 1)

BIBLICAL VBS THEMES (Part – 1)

THEME - 1

Theme: The Greatest Name

Theme Verse: Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, (Philippians 2:9)

Objective: To introduce children to the greatest name on earth, the name of Jesus Christ.

Sub-themes

Day 1 – Saviour (Acts 13:23)

Day 2 – The Word (J0hn 1:14)

Day 3 – The Living Bread (John 6:51)

Day 4 - The True Vine (John 15:5)

Day 5 – The Way (John 14:6)

Day 6 – The Good Shepherd (John 10:14)

Day 7 – Immanuel (Matthew 1:23)

 

THEME - 2

Theme: Highway n Byways

Theme Verse: And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; (Isaiah 35:8)
or 
The highway of the upright avoids evil; those who guard their ways preserve their lives. (Proverbs 16:17)

Objective: To teach about heaven’s highway and hell’s byways.

Sub-themes / Lessons

Lessons could be taken from Psalm – 1 or the Book of Proverbs teaching children the various byways that should be avoided while on our Christian journey

THEME - 3

Theme: Champions / Marathon Masters

Theme Verse: I Corinthians 9:24

Objective: To teach children that the Christian life is like a race. To win the race we have to train, avoid distractions and be on the track. We will be rewarded richly if we run our earthly race victoriously

Sub-themes

1– Christian life is like a race (A race is set before us - I Corinthians 9:24)

2 – Train (for the race – I Corinthians 9:25, 27)

3 – Renew your strength (Isaiah 40:31; II Corinthians 12:9 - 10)

4 – Set aside (everything that hinders - Galatians 5:7; I Corinthians 9:25)

5 – Focus (towards the goal, looking unto Jesus -Philippians 3:14; I Corinthians 9:26; Hebrews 12:2)

6 – Obey (the rules given in the word of God – II Timothy 2:5; Colossians 2:18, 19)

7– Endurance / Perseverance (Run with perseverance - Jeremiah 12:5; Romans 5:3-4; Philippians 3:13-14)

8 - Reward (Run that you may receive the prize - I Corinthians 9:24; 2 Timothy 4:8)

THEME - 4

Theme: Treasure Hunters / Treasure Trove

Theme Verse: I rejoice at Your word As one who finds great treasure. (Psalm 119:162)

Objective: To introduce children to the greatest treasure trove in the world, God’s word – the Holy Bible. God’s word brings out valuable treasures as we dig deeper each day. What are some of the treasures we can find in God’s treasure trove?

Sub-themes

1) Love

2) Faith

3) Wisdom (Proverbs 2:4 – 5; Colossians 2:3)

4) Health

5) Hope

6) Eternal life

THEME - 5

Theme: Eternal City Voyage / Canaan Trail / Trackers n Trekkers / Pilgrim Patrick

Theme Verse: I Peter 2:11; Hebrews 11:13

Objective: We are pilgrims on this earth. We don’t belong to this earth. We are on a voyage to an eternal city.

Sub-themes/ Lessons:

The lessons could be based on Pilgrims Progress for kids or Israelites journey to Canaan through the desert

 THEME - 6

Theme: Chris Kids - Whiz Kids

Theme Verse: If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

Objective: To teach children about heavenly wisdom.

Sub themes

1 – God gives wisdom (James 1:5; I Kings 4:29, Isaiah 33:6)

2 – Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7)

3 – Humility and wisdom (Proverbs 11:2)

4 - Wisdom is better than gold and silver (Proverbs 16:16)

5 - Heavenly wisdom (James 3:17)

6 – Wisdom brings forth good deeds (James 3:13)

7 – Wisdom preserves life (Ecclesiastes 7:12)

 

THEME - 7

Theme: Farm Fresh / Vineyard

Theme Verse: I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

Objective: To teach children that we are like little plants born through the imperishable seed of the word of God. God planted us, he takes care of us and prunes us, so that we can produce hundred-fold fruits in our life for the benefit of others and the kingdom of God.

Sub-themes could be based on planting, pruning, protecting / producing fruits (Isaiah 5:1,2; Luke 8:5-15; Hebrews 7,8)

 

THEME - 8

Theme: For Such a Time

Theme Verse: Esther 4:14

Objective: To help children understand how we can be of service to God amidst different situations and circumstances that happen in our life, family, school etc.

Sub-themes

1) Time of need (Proverbs 3:28) - Abigail’s help during David’s time of need, Joseph provides for his brothers

2) Time of fear (Isaiah 40:1) - Esther’s help during time of fear, Rahab hiding the spies

3) Time of sickness (James 5:14,15) – Four friends help a paralyzed man, Centurion seeks help for his servant

4) Time of rejection (Book of Philemon) – Apostle Paul helps Onesimus

5) Time of sin and shame (James 5:20) – Jesus Christ speaks to the Samaritan woman

THEME - 9

Theme: Fruit of the Spirit

Theme Verse: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.  (Galatians 5:22,23)

Sub-themes

Day 1 – What is fruit of the spirit?

Day 2 – Fruit of the spirit Vs works of the flesh

Day 3 – Love & Joy

Day 4 – Peace & Forbearance

Day 5 - Kindness, Goodness

Day 6 – Faithfulness & Gentleness

Day 7 – Self-control

 THEME - 10

Theme: Chosen Generation

Theme Verse: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (I Peter 2:9)    

Sub-themes

We are chosen for obedience: If ye will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me (Exodus 19:5a)

We are chosen to proclaim God’s praises: But ye are a chosen generation …. That ye should shew forth the praises of him (I Peter 2:9)

We are chosen to give fruits: I have chosen you that ye should go and bring forth fruit. (John 15:16)

We are chosen for salvation: God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth (II Thessalonians 2:13b)

We are chosen to be different: For I the Lord am holy and have severed you from other people that ye should be mine (Leviticus 20:26b)

We are chosen to be faithful: For he is Lord of Lords and king of kings; and they that are with him are called and chosen and faithful (Revelation 17:14b)

We are chosen for holiness: He hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy (Ephesians 1:4a)

We are chosen for inheritance: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom he has chosen for his inheritance (Psalms 33:12)
